Do you know that if you enter your birthday as part of your personal data here on the forum, on the correct day it will show up at the bottom of the forum entry page? I always look to see whose birthday it is. There seems to be a correlation between A:M supportiveness and willingness to put your birthday out there for all to see. I know I only give personal information to organizations I support and trust.
If you are going to include your birthday, include other personal information like where you live and your hobbies - and especially a picture of yourself. That way, other people can better match your postings with you. This is important, because people who only visit occasionally will select to read postings from people they think they know.
I'm writing this because the forum is getting very active. I can probably identify a couple hundred people now but I'm going to need help if we're going to recognize you at a trade show or a user group meeting.
But sometimes its just nice to be anonymous.

Great idea Martin - I`m going to update my profile soon.
Maybe the Hash team could do likewise?

It's too bad the birthday field requires all or nothing. It'd be nice if it didn't require a year. And what's up with using the European long date format?

Is the fate of the "free world" at risk if we all know the date of your birth?
(You could always fudge the year.)
I'm more interested in where people are located in the world/country. Always looking for more potential user group members.
I do find myself a bit more interested in the posts of users who I know a little something about.

Pardon me for this, I am afraid if I include such details, no one will talk to me, America does not favor my country, though I have nothing to do with politics and don't even have a religion for myself, it is best to keep it low and I am propably the only AM user where I come from.

That's your right and I respect it, but you might be surprised... most Americans don't judge a person by their nationality.

I always tell people that I don't care where they are from, what color they are or what their religious beliefs are. To take it further, I don't care what other people think of them or me.
I evaluate each person on their own mertit.
My birthday and hobies are proudly displayed for all to see (otherwise I wouldn't have placed them in the profile).
If people don't want to put anything in there, OK by me, but it's really cool to see the faces and living locations of fellow hashers.

I dislike all people equally.

France has a Disneyland so they can't be that bad.
No one has a cuter picture than I do in my profile.... so blah!
You pretend to be someone with a name like Bullet321 I don't see why you can't pretend to be 19!
The Europeans are conspiring to change the date and time format of all forums again...
Come on guys... Update your data! Then you won't be faceless.
(You too Martin) Especially the homepage URL.. blank is rather unexceptable. What... Are you afraid someone might accidentally visit www.hash.com and buy A:M!?!!?
Disregard me... I woke up in a strange mood today. hehe

Except the Update your data part... don't disregard that...
Does European Long Date Format make me look older?

Philip;
It is quite natural to be afraid of things that we don't understand. Being an American (isn't that a bit rude anyway - Mexico, Canada are in North America as well AND there is that Central and South America thingy), I actually hate the preconception that is labeled on me abroad. Of course, I have seen Americans abroad that earn the title "Dirty American". I for one, am interested in finding out about different cultures, the foods that other people eat, the ways those people interact, bits of other languages. There are "dirty Americans" that may hate you just because of where you live. That is a fact. There are also Americans that would be interested in talking to you because you ARE different because of the culture that you live in. Some of us are ignorant about the rest of the world but some more would like very much to become less ignorant (me being one of them).
Summary - We aren't all bad and while some of us are ignorant about the world around us, we want to learn and meet people different from us.

No it doesn't make you look older.
Although, I'm not going to be the one to tell you it makes your butt look big, nope, that'll have to come from somewhere else.

I reckon it's something to do with market research at Hash.
What's the average age of an A:M user?
How many people from from a certain country use A:M?
I'm just naturally suspicious

I'm one of those people who think it's your ideas and thoughts that count, not physical appearance or location... or whether you put the day before the month when writing the date.

HAH! You obviously haven't seen mine. And nooooooo, I am not going to put my birthdate in, not in a million ba-gazillion years...
However, for really useless personal data, and to embarass myself further, I will say that my great grandmother's name was America Hash - I am not making this up (she was married to Lewis Ward) from Grayson Co. VA - her father was Joseph "Rhymer Joe" Hash (also Grayson Co.), His father was Joseph Sr. Hash, son of William Horton Hash, son of Old John Hash - I JUST KNOW I must be related somehow to all the little Hashlets running around up there in Vancouver....I'm so proud.

I feel swayed... gonna have to go find a picture now, and see what else I am missing.
As for where you live, well, I look at it this way. Most of the people on this board are here because in some way or another they are artists at heart. Some (like me) may not be very good at art, but we still have that artistic spirit. Maybe some Americans would not be supportive of you for such stupid reasons as where you live, what color you are, or what your government does. I doubt many of those types of people frequent this board.
I'm an American, and I love my country, but I tell people I meet from other countries that they shouldn't judge all Americans by what our government does. They should only judge the ones who voted for Bush (heh, j/k kinda).
Just my thoughts on the matter...

One thing I've learned over the years, people are people, whereever you go. No matter what the country, culture or sub- culture, there are good folks and bad folks. While statistics are all too painfully right about group reactions, they are never right for judging the actions of an individual.

Come on guys, I think It doesnīt matter where does everybody was born if finally there is a common knowledge to share, (using AM and doing 3d animations) maybe the problem could be that the persons whose donīt speak English well (as me

) have more difficulty to say what they want, for instance, Iīm from Guadalajara in Mexico and here are many people that use animation master, so they have not participated in hash forums because they donīt speak English, I mean the only thing I wish for us,itīs just a little of patience...so as martin says could be a good idea to recognize everybody into the forum, I agree whit him...

Even though there are some dunes around here those are not dunes in the picture and it's a good distance from either place you mentioned actually.
It's a regional airport somewhat near Hash, Inc. that I know Martin has been to in other than a commercial plane. The main reason I put the question was for Martin. I also know that he Scuba dives so I figured he would recognize the type of jellyfish.

i think that nobody has to judge somebody else, because of your country or your religion or even your age, what matters its what you think and what you can or can't do, i think that what martin propose it's great so we can learn from each other as persons and why not, to learn about our culture, and grow up as persons, i am from Mexico, and personally i love America because it's a great country and most of Americans are great and honest people and i don't see why we have to judge them, we can judge the way the government act, but hey nobody is perfect, my country isn't perfect and your country isn't too so come on people, if you are going to judge someone the first thing you have to do is look at yourself and judge yourself then you can do it with another one.
sorry for my bad english.

Thanks for sharing Emmanuel.
We've seen a big increase in the number of A:M Users from Mexico in the past few years.
If you really want to emmerse yourself in the english language you might want to visit #hash3d from time to time. Even if you don't chat... you can't help but learn.
Of course... One would hope that at least some of the chat is A:M related.

Hi all,
just my thinking:
Itīs true the board is changing. It -somehow- becomes to be a big family, and the users are nice, friendly and most of all very, very helpfully!!
For this i find itīs a good idea to know you all a little bit better. I donīt think we all will become close friends, but we all respect each other in their work and in their meaning. So why not share other informations. It donīt has to be a must, itīs good to know theres a can do!
So, here another thing. I live in Berlin, Germany and most of the time i can offer a sleeping place for one, or two days. If someone like, just give me a mail.

Generally speaking, in a broad sense, I figure that the fact that all these countries we have here on earth exist in the first place is because humans are rather persnickety beingings and sometime, at some point the group of people that became country X or Y (Or Z, even) went to war with/where invaded by/pissed off some other group of people that later went to war with/were invaded by/pissed off yet another group of people and then became thier own country. This makes my head hurt, so I usually just try to be nice to everybody.
