Extra DVD Content Options

Rodney, just setup a 'models to rig' folder on the ftp and place them in there. Once I'm done I'll move them to a 'rigged models' folder.

Rodney, I don't know if you noticed, but I gave my JD character to mark for the Rigging WOrkshop. If he gets it finished in time, you might want to see if he's good with giving his part of the work to the extra DVD. For my part (modeling), I'm fine with giving the model to you for the DVD.

I've fallen behind on forum reading but I saw your initial offer.
Nice model! If there is any particular way you want to show her off the plan is to have an info page for at least all the Actors on the DVD. I haven't done up the sample page yet but basically an HTML page with a few images and information which might be linked from the models File Info URL container.

Agreed. The info that we might collect while putting her together might make for a really nice tutorial.

I'd like to have at least one model from TWO on the DVD to fit in with a little TWO promo piece.
Personally I'd like to add the two farmers because I think they'd be a hoot to animate in all kinds of scenes.

Okay.. maybe not. Perhaps best to keep them for the TWO DVD.

I'm adding the actors to the FTP now. I might try to rig a few myself if I can muster the talent.
Once they get there just grab the ones that interest you and go from there.
There will be models you find there that were rejected from the Extra CD. Some need some serious reworking. I created a folder called 'Needs Help - TBD'. Drop them in there if you don't know what else to do with them. Most of these will be from pre-v8.5 A:M CDs.

There are other models that need to be checked that aren't character actors.
Most of these are animals. We have a nice variety in the collection.
I don't think we have a standard quadraped rig do we?

CAUTION: There are some models in there that are obsolete. They have been replaced by later models.
I haven't yet fully scrubbed all content for these. We don't want to replace the good models with the bad.

Wow, how far are you on this now, Rodney? If you have a list of models that aren't on the DVD and are needed, let me know. I'll see if I can make some (can't promise on this though) -- if you have time for more models.

Since I modeled the Skinny Farmhand I'd like to see that too, but it will have to wait until the TWO DVD, like you said. I could also see those two in a short by themselves. I said that the second I saw the concept art for them .

Wow, how far are you on this now, Rodney?

I'll call it 8% done.

While a lot of the content is collected the task is now to categorize, test, refine, document and present the resources on the DVD.

There are four ways people will be able to look at the data:
- The HTML Menu (Vernon Zehr's interface from the Extra CD)
- A:M Digest (more of a magazine look)
- A:M Libraries (drag and drop the resources inside A:M)
- Browse the DVD via the directories

The menus are important but content remains king.
As final content starts to settle we'll try to fill in gaps in information, themes and interests to round out the DVD.

If any one wants to get involved in this refining they are certainly welcome.
There is no Extra DVD team per se like we had for the Extra CD.
It'd be a lot more fun if we had one.

This dvd is getting exciting now ,can hardley sit on my chair ,oh maybe I should take the coffee mug off it lol .The female is coming along Rodney ,as you know Im doing the squach rig with a lot of help ,but do you still want the 2001 rig aswell .I could probably manage that but waiting and smartskinn is another thing ,maybe someone could do that untill I get the hang of it ,if needs be

Having a few Squetch Rigs on the DVD is a must. David Simmon's video tutorials will be there.
The vast majority of the Actors will be 2001 Rig. This is necessary to keep as many people animating as possible(and having a great time while doing it too!) .

Smartskin is definitely an issue here especially with older models.
I'm not sure we are going to get them all smartskinned but we just might.

Maybe we can convince Hash Inc and Will Sutton to let us adapt Will's Smartskinning demo from the 2005 SIGGRAPH DVD for inclusion on the Extra DVD? It'd be great advertisement for the SIGGRAPH Demos.

The FTP kept timing out on me so I started adding individual folder.
Went out for fireworks but the rain brought us back earlier so I'm at it again.

Originally I was shooting for a deadline of SIGGRAPH but that was without rigged Actors.
If we can get the Actors rigged I'd say thats a safe bet.

I don't have any specific model request.
When we set out on putting together this content as a CD I told everyone we weren't specifically looking for new models. Cityscapes, buildings and space related models were the primary themes of the CD.

There are always models needed for these type of projects.
DVD space and permission to include the resource are the limiting factors.

I'll try to get a new listing of models we've got slated for inclusion and determine what gaps exist.
If you read through the rest of the posts in this 'Extras II' CD area that might provide the information you need.

Of all the things posted recently in the forum the Star Wars models caught my attention.
I know for a fact that people would love to see them on the Extra DVD.
